St. Denis Cathedral

St. Denis is located in Paris, France. It has strong Tudor connections. In 1514 Mary Tudor, sister of King Henry VIII was crowned Queen of France at St. Denis in a grand celebration. She had married the aging Louis XII as part of a peace treaty between England and France.

St. Denis is also the site of the graves of the Kings of France. Louis XII is buried here as well as Francois I and Claude, whom Anne Boleyn served while living in France.

The Cathedral itself was built between 1136-1140. During the French Revolution the graves of the King's and Queen's were opened and the remains dumped in a mass grave. Eventually the bones were reinterred in a crypt, as it was imposible to tell who was who to return them to their rightful graves.
